Job Description
Nursery Chef / Cook
Location: Hackney E9
Salary: £25,300.60 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) Monday to Friday
About the Role:
Our client, a well-established nursery in Hackney, is looking for an experienced Nursery Cook to join their team. The nursery provides full-day and sessional care for children aged 6 months to 5 years and operates 51 weeks a year. The cook will be responsible for preparing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks for up to 100 children daily, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook meals and snacks according to prescribed menus, catering to children's dietary needs.
- Order, collect, and record food supplies from central stores.
- Safely use kitchen appliances, including cookers, deep-fat fryers, mixers, and kettles.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene by thoroughly cleaning equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Assist in achieving and maintaining high health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Flexibly support other areas of the nursery if needed.
Requirements:
- Strong experience in meal preparation in a nursery or childcare setting.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety for Catering is essential.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or similar is preferred.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prepare meals for large groups of children.
- Team-oriented, with excellent communication skills to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
