How you'll make a difference:
In this Secure Children's Home, you will play a vital role in helping young people develop essential values, skills, and knowledge in a safe, supportive environment. You'll be key in preparing them for a positive and purposeful return to the community. This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people's lives, offering care, education, and life skills training that fosters personal growth and social development.
What will you be doing?

  • Provide ongoing care, supervision, and control of young residents, ensuring all regulatory frameworks for secure accommodation are met.
  • Oversee security measures and assist with health and safety compliance, including fire precautions, drills, and evacuation procedures.
  • Protect young people from abuse, including bullying, and help identify and assess their needs and potential.
  • Build strong professional relationships with young people displaying high-risk, challenging behaviour and guide them through induction and preparation for leaving the home.
  • Organise and oversee individual and group activities to enrich the young people's experience.
  • Participate in their education, assisting with in-class studies and homework, and help them develop positive behavioural responses through pro-social conduct.

What we need from you:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to record and communicate essential information, with basic MS Word and Excel proficiency.
  • A non-judgmental understanding of young people with complex needs.
  • Previous experience in a secure setting or working with challenging behaviour is desirable.
  • Willingness to undertake training, including the Level 3 RQF qualification, within an agreed timescale.
  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.

Important Information:

  • Shift-based work, including weekends and bank holidays (7:30 am - 10:30 pm).
  • This is a non-smoking environment, and staff are required to leave personal belongings in provided lockers.
  • Physical activity is part of the role, and a physical fitness check may be required.
