Job Title: Senior People Partner
Location: Cambourne (Hybrid working available)
Grade: 6
Reports To: Principal People Partner

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior People Partner to join our HR team, supporting the council's vision through effective people management, strategic guidance, and hands-on expertise. As a Senior People Partner, you will partner with a specific service area, delivering proactive support on HR initiatives, managing employee relations casework, and contributing to impactful people strategies. This role requires a strategic approach, with an emphasis on people-centric solutions and enhancing HR processes across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

People Partner Responsibilities

  • Support & Advisory: Support the Head of Transformation, HR, and Corporate Services, alongside the People Service Manager, in delivering HR services to the council.
  • Strategic Partnering: Act as a trusted partner for a designated service area, advising on people initiatives and providing proactive, expert advice on employee relations.
  • Case Management: Lead casework for various employee relations issues, providing professional guidance and support to resolve matters effectively.
  • Policy Expertise: Serve as a key contact for employment-related inquiries, including policies and contracts.
  • Employee Development: Identify team and individual development needs, proposing learning solutions and supporting team-building initiatives.
  • Change Management: Support managers in service restructures, from planning to consultation and implementation, including employee and Trade Union communications.
  • Project Support: Provide HR support on corporate projects and initiatives as required.
  • Data Management: Produce management information reports on key metrics (e.g., absence, turnover, recruitment, training) to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the review and revision of People policies and procedures, ensuring clear communication and effective implementation.
  • Job Evaluation: Support the job evaluation process for new roles and regrading applications.
  • Learning & Development: Collaborate with the L&D Partner to develop and deliver HR-related training for employees and managers.

Senior People Partner Responsibilities
In addition to the above, as a Senior People Partner, you will:

  • Process Improvement: Lead the development of the management information process and oversee the report schedule.
  • Mentor-ship: Mentor and support People Partners and Coordinators in their professional growth.
  • Strategic Alignment: Use a strategic approach to align HR services with council goals and objectives, supporting managers to take ownership of people management.
  • Expert Guidance: Provide specialised advice on complex and sensitive employment matters, including complex casework and employment relations issues.
  • Policy & Process Development: Support the evolution of forward-thinking policies and HR processes to reflect best practices and current legislation.
  • Autonomous Problem-Solving: Resolve issues independently, delivering concise, clear, and accessible advice.
  • Business Process Optimisation: Assist Business Partners in implementing strategy and maximising HR process efficiency's with iTrent.
  • Adaptability: Foster a collaborative, positive attitude towards change and continuous improvement.

About You
To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Significant HR experience, particularly in a senior advisory role
  • A proven ability to handle complex employment relations and case management
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to align HR initiatives to organisational goals
  • Excellent communication and mentor ship abilities
  • Experience in policy development and process improvement
  • CIPD 5 and above
