Payroll Officer

Job Description

Brook Street are working with a well established accountancy firm, based in Newport, who are looking for a Payroll Officer to join the team. This is a brand new role due to increased workload. This role is Monday - Friday, 8:30PM - 4:30PM, all on-site.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Payroll Manager in managing a diverse client payroll portfolio.
  • Complete weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, and monthly payrolls for clients with employee counts ranging from 1 to 150 using Sage Payroll.
  • Process BACS payments using third-party payment mandates.
  • Ensure timely submission of all HMRC returns and compliance with regulations.
  • Upload pension data to relevant pension providers accurately.
  • Prepare and complete year-end submissions.
  • Address and resolve client payroll queries promptly.
  • Provide holiday cover and support for the Payroll Manager as needed.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in payroll within an accountancy practice.
  • Proficient in Sage Payroll software.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation and HMRC regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for client interactions and team collaboration.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving.
