Funeral Assistant
£22k per annum + On-call pay (approx. £6k per annum)

Brook Street is delighted to present the opportunity to work a family run Funeral Directors based in the Southampton area which are looking to bring in an experienced, professional and emotionally intelligent Funeral Assistant.
About the job:
The Funeral assistant role is a versatile position, supporting the organisation in running a professional and compassionate service. Primarily you will be based out of the organisations garage location in Hedge End where the funeral vehicles are kept, cleaned and maintained.
Key responsibilities:
You will be cleaning the company's vehicles to a high standard for the funeral services; attention to detail is key and this will be a large part of the role. You will also be driving and bearing on funeral services and have to participate in an out of hour`s rota system which will require lifting. You will also be assisting with the presentation of the deceased
Knowledge and skills required:
- Empathetic and Caring personality is key
- You will be articulate and well-presented (no face/neck/hand/wrist tattoos)
- Ideally you will have experience of working in a busy / high pressure environment.
- A high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- A flexible approach to tasks
- You must be physically fit and able to carry out heavy lifting at times
- You must currently hold a valid and clean driving license
You will work Monday - Friday 8.30am to 5pm, 30 minute unpaid lunch break
You will be required to work at weekends and occasional evenings (1 weekend every 4 weeks) and in this case you will receive extra pay for being on standby and further pay per weekend or evening call out. You will be provided with a uniform.
Who's right for the job?
The ideal candidate will come from a solid working background, will be able to adapt well to different circumstances, will work in a team, and will work well under pressure. Due to the coffin-bearing requirements you will need to be at least a height of 5 feet and 6 inches. You must be of a smart appearance, with a caring and empathetic nature. You must be professional at all times and work well with a team. You must have a clean full driving licence and be available to work on call during some evenings and weekends.
What's in it for you?
In return for your hard work the company offers a basic salary of £22k, as well as benefits package (including 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, Pension scheme, and free parking). In addition, the average additional on-call pay per month is between £500-£700 per month.
