Job Description

Our public sector client is recruiting for a temporary worker to join their team as a Court Usher. This is currently a temporary role until the end of March 2025 but it is very likely this role will be extended. This is a full time role, 37 hours per week, around the hours of 9am - 5pm. The pay rate for this role is £11.44 per hour and will increase to £12.07 at week 12. Payment would be on a weekly basis.

This role is fully office based, due to the nature of the work. The court is located in B4 7NA.

As a court usher you will be responsible for a smooth running of the court servces. This is a customer facing role, where you will come accross people from all walks of like. Some of your day to day duties will include:

  • Reception of parties to court, including members of the public, judiciary, juries, solicitors and barristers, the police, representatives of external Agencies etc.
  • Preparing rooms for hearings, tribunals, trials, meetings and clearing the court / hearing room down at the end of the day etc.
  • Using electronic diaries
  • Providing information related to proceedings, escorting court users into and from the building, swearing oaths etc.
  • Calling people into court / hearing rooms in priority order, discussing with Court Clerks and Legal Advisers and liaising with the Witness Service as necessary
  • Answering face to face enquiries
  • Keeping parties informed of changes
  • Collecting and delivering files and bundles to the judiciary and clerks ensuring they have the necessary papers
  • General clerical work, including use of computers and Switchboard
  • Operating recording equipment and maintaining records of recordings of hearings
  • Sort and deliver lists of hearings for internal & external notice boards
